Diljit Dosanjh, born Diljit Singh Dosanjh, is an Indian singer, actor, film producer, and television personality whose career has played a major role in expanding Punjabi music and cinema to international audiences. Raised in the village of Dosanjh Kalan in Punjab's Jalandhar district before moving to Ludhiana, he began singing devotional hymns (kirtan) at local gurdwaras as a child, where he developed his vocal ability and stage confidence.
He entered the music industry in 2002, with his breakthrough arriving through the albums "Smile" (2005), "Chocolate" (2008), and "The Next Level" (2009), the latter featuring collaborations with Yo Yo Honey Singh. These releases established him among the leading voices of Punjabi music, combining bhangra, Punjabi folk, pop, hip-hop, and contemporary production styles. His catalog later expanded with successful albums including "Back 2 Basics," "G.O.A.T.," "MoonChild Era," "Drive Thru," and "Ghost," producing internationally recognized singles such as "Do You Know," "5 Taara," "Lover," "Born to Shine," "Clash," and "G.O.A.T."
Dosanjh transitioned into acting with "Mel Karade Rabba" (2010) before becoming one of Punjabi cinema's biggest stars through films including "Jihne Mera Dil Luteya," "Jatt & Juliet," "Jatt & Juliet 2," "Punjab 1984," "Sardaar Ji," "Ambarsariya," "Sajjan Singh Rangroot," "Shadaa," "Honsla Rakh," "Jodi," "Chamkila," and "Jatt & Juliet 3." His Bollywood breakthrough came in "Udta Punjab" (2016), earning widespread critical acclaim and establishing him as a leading actor beyond regional cinema.
Internationally, Dosanjh has become one of the most recognizable Punjabi artists. He became the first Punjabi-language performer to appear at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2023 and has headlined sold-out arena tours across North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. His music has appeared on Billboard and Official Charts rankings, reflecting the growing global reach of Punjabi-language entertainment.
Throughout his career, Dosanjh has received numerous honors, including Filmfare Awards, PTC Punjabi Film Awards, PTC Punjabi Music Awards, Brit Asia TV Music Awards, and recognition for both his recording and acting achievements.
